Mark Zuckerberg has been criticized for his plans to build an AGI system on par with human intelligence and make it freely available to the public. In a Facebook post, Zuckerberg said it was clear that the next generation of tech services “requires building full general intelligence.” Critics argue that this decision is irresponsible and could lead to unforeseen consequences and risks. Zuckerberg has acknowledged the importance of safety and responsibility in the development of AGI but has not provided a specific timeframe for its development. Some experts predict AGI could be developed in approximately ten years or less. Many argue that the international community should engage in a dialogue about the risks and benefits of AGI, establish guidelines for its development, and use not one or two big tech firms like Meta or Open AI. OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, is also building AGI.
